As an artist I luxuriate in the interplay of color, line, shape, texture, and media. When contrasting colors meet their differences allow for each to attain their most vibrant state. Similar richness can also be found within the interplay of shapes or textures. However, it is when the variety of visual elements are all present, and when they work in concert, that they become most potent. The shapes are beautiful because they are seen in the context of other forms. The variety of colors enhance each other more in association than they do in isolation. Just as the canvas hosts a range of visual elements to create harmony, beauty, and intrigue so does our society. The work “We / Us / Ours” is a celebration of the cultural, ethnic, and gender diversity I see in the world. Each of these differences add a richness and beauty to our lives. This artwork alludes to these differences being present in each of us. We are all a multitude of some kind, each filled with an array of personalities, cultures, ethnicities, genders, hopes, and ideas. I invite my audience to consider these multitudes, embrace these differences, and celebrate our collective diversity.
